During the first special stage, Duncan Mubiru’s car caught fire after what appeared to be a mechanical failure. Duncan, an experienced driver known for his risk-taking on fast terrain, was on track to deliver a strong performance when his car suddenly began spewing smoke and then caught fire on ‘mama 1’, the first stage of the day and was forced to retire.

The rapid response from the rally’s safety crews ensured Duncan and his co-driver Joseph Kamya were quickly evacuated from the vehicle, and thankfully, both were unharmed. Among others were Abdul Kateete who retired after a gearbox failure, Mustapha Mukasa, Rashid Makumbi and Peter Kalule who rolled on the ultimate stage of the rally.

The overall standings, it was Ponsiano Lwakataka and his co-driver Paul Musaazi who won the event in what was a dramatic conclusion. Lwakataka, known for his aggressive driving style, displayed consistency throughout the event, securing podium finishes across multiple stages.

Despite a tough battle from rival Ronald Sebuguzi, who led at some point in the rally, Lwakataka’s speed and tactical decisions under pressure helped him snatch victory in the final stages. The win also strategically positioned him as one of the brightest contenders of the 2025 National Title.

Nasser Mutebi had a standout performance at the rally, securing a well deserved spot on the podium in third place. The 2010 national champion known for his precise driving, foughttooth and nail through the challenging stages to fend off Yasin Nasser who finished in fourth position.

While the overall position went to an experienced driver, CRC saw a rising star in Walter Kibande . The rookie driver and his navigator Duncan Katumba dominated their class with a series of flawless performances, even managing to keep their cool after an intense early battle in the rally . Walter’s speed in the fast stages was particularly impressive, and many pundits are now calling him one of the most promising talents in rallying.

The CRC competition wasn’t just about winning, it also showcased the spirit of youth and ambition. Young drivers in this category fought tooth and nail for podium places, making it one of the most exciting to watch, as the future of rallying looks in safe hands with this new generation of drivers. Among them were Kevin Bebeto, Ahmed Kateete, Robert Kiggundu and Topher Kateera among others.

Looking Ahead, there was yet another intense battle in the 2WD category with over seven crews fighting for the podium positions but however Kirumira Edward won the category with Hajji Amiri Kavuma and Julius Ssemambo completed the podium.
