Toyota and Hyundai Gear Up for a Fierce Battle in the Finnish Forests.

The countdown has begun for the much-anticipated WRC Secto Rally Finland 2024, where the world’s top rally drivers are set to push the limits on the fast, flowing stages that have become synonymous with this iconic event. Known for its exhilarating high-speed sections and breathtaking jumps, Rally Finland is the crown jewel of the World Rally Championship (WRC) calendar, and this year’s edition promises to be a battle for the ages.

Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT: Strength in Numbers

Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT is entering the event with a formidable lineup of five drivers, aiming to capitalize on their home advantage. Led by the experienced Sébastien OGIER and local hero Kalle ROVANPERÄ, the team is well-prepared to tackle the challenges posed by Finland’s gravel roads. With Elfyn EVANS, Takamoto KATSUTA, and emerging star Sami PAJARI rounding out the squad, Toyota’s depth gives them a distinct edge in what is expected to be a closely fought contest.

The team’s confidence is bolstered by their previous successes in Finland and the extensive knowledge they possess of the unique terrain. Rovanperä, in particular, will be looking to shine in front of his home crowd, having already made a name for himself with his fearless driving style and deep familiarity with the Finnish stages.

Hyundai Shell Mobis World Rally Team: Neuville Leads the Charge

However, Toyota’s rivals are not to be underestimated. The Hyundai Shell Mobis World Rally Team enters the rally with a lean but potent lineup of three drivers, led by the current championship leader, Thierry Neuville. With 145 points, Neuville is determined to extend his lead in the championship and fend off the advances of his closest rival, teammate Ott Tänak, who trails by just 8 points.

Neuville’s performance in the previous event WRC Rally Latvia was short of expectation from which he finished 8th overall. However, throughout the season his consistency put him in a prime position, but he will need to be at his very best to fend off the Toyota assault on Finland’s notoriously tricky stages. Tänak, known for his aggressive driving and unyielding determination, will also be a force to reckon with, as he looks to close the gap in the title race. Esapekka Lappi, the third driver in Hyundai’s lineup, will be hoping to make his mark on his home rally and provide crucial support to his teammates.

M-Sport Ford World Rally Team: The Underdogs

Meanwhile, the M-Sport Ford World Rally Team enters Rally Finland as the underdogs, with only two drivers on the entry list. Although lacking in numbers, the team is banking on the experience and skill of their drivers to pull off a surprise result. The team has often thrived in challenging conditions, and the unpredictable nature of Rally Finland could play to their advantage.

The Stage is Set

As the teams make their final preparations, the atmosphere in Jyväskylä is electric with anticipation. Rally Finland’s fast stages, characterized by their undulating terrain and blind crests, demand precision and courage in equal measure. The iconic Ouninpohja stage, with its massive jumps, is set to be the ultimate test of the drivers’ skill and bravery.
