The 80th edition of the WRC Rally Poland 2024 was a gripping spectacle, with rally enthusiasts witnessing top-tier racing and exhilarating performances. Among the standout competitors was Finnish prodigy Kalle Rovanperä, who delivered a masterclass in skill and resilience throughout the event despite having made no preparations for the event at all. Called in to replace Sebastian Ogier who was involved in a road accident during Recce. Kalle came from repairing his Jet-Ski to winning the 7th round of the WRC 2024 Championship. Rovanperä’s Toyota GR Yaris Rally1 Hybrid proved to be a reliable companion as he pushed the limits, setting competitive times across all stages finishing day one 1.8 seconds behind Andreas MIKKELSEN who led the rally for the bigger part of the day. Particularly, his performance form stage SS10 to 15 was a highlight, where he managed to gain significant time on his rivals. On Sunday morning, Andreas encountered a tyre puncture leading to a huge damage to his Hyundai i20 N Rally1 HYBRID that saw the Norwegian loose his battle for first place and was left with no option but only to cruise to finish. Despite this setback, his quick and efficient repairs, combined with his unflappable focus, ensured he remained in the competition. His perseverance and ability to maintain top performance under pressure were truly commendable.
Rovanperä’s impressive performance in Poland has significant implications for the overall championship standings. With crucial points secured, TGR remains a strong contender for the WRC Manufacturer title. As the season progresses, consistency and competitive edge will be key assets in the tightly contested championship race with HYUNDAI SHELL MOBIS WORLD RALLY TEAM who are currently only 10 Points ahead of TGR.
