Elfyn Evans is officially the 2023 Rally Croatia winner after an amazing performance from Friday through Saturday to the Sunday PowerStage. Since Rally Finland 2021, Evans had never tasted victory and the TGR confidence in him has been rusting over time with his 2024 future on a loose.
Well, Evans just proved everyone wrong, coming into Rally Croatia, no one expected him to score a podium position. This can be seen from the Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) selection of Ogier and Kalle Rovanpera as point scorers for the event in memory of Craig Breen.
Now, Evans’s win proves a big point that everyone has been missing, “TGR has a good car, and an all-lethal line up”. Going into Rally Portugal, Evans is now a favorite to have his feet on the podium with his personal confidence slowly taking new heights that could see him become the 2023 WRC Champion.
WRC Championship Standings after Rally Croatia
Driver | Championship Points |
---|---|
Sebastien Ogier | 69 |
Elfyn Evans | 69 |
Kalle Rovanpera | 68 |
OTT Tanak | 65 |
Thierry Neuville | 58 |
Evans successfully tamed his competition with the exit of his major threat Thierry Neuville from the Rally. Now, he jointly leads the WRC championship together with Sebastien Ogier at 69 points. The advantage is, Seb Ogier runs a part-time campaign and is not a big threat to the championship which gives Evans an open run starting with Rally Portugal.
